LIBBY CLEARFIELD

Libby Clearfield, VO Coach, Casting Director, and Actor with Voiceover Activate!

While born and raised in Texas, Libby Clearfield bounced around a lot, acting and directing for theatre in New York where she earned her BFA in Drama from NYU; then moving to Israel to teach English and earn her MA in Education from Tel Aviv University; then pursuing on-camera acting in Los Angeles, before discovering voiceover in 2013. Two years into her VO acting career, by happenstance she found herself at Coupe Studios in Boulder, Colorado as their casting director, where she then spent the next 9 years working closely with clients to understand their vision and translate it into receiving compelling performances from the voice actors she showcased for them to hire. She has built a formidable roster of talents and developed great relationships with talent agents and agencies around the globe, allowing her to launch her own company, Voiceover Activate, in May 2024.

Voiceover Activate is a trifecta of Libby’s skills and passions for coaching, casting, and acting. With her experience in these three areas of the voiceover industry, she offers a unique perspective to her coaching students, as she speaks the language of the actor while still understanding and appreciating the intricacies of production, primarily in the commercial and narration world.

Libby loves working with seasoned VO professionals as much as emerging new talents, as there is always something new and exciting to learn and teach from every experience, and she appreciates every opportunity she gets to impart any of the pearls of wisdom she’s gained throughout the years!

FEEDBACK

General Note For Everyone:

Thank you all for your submissions! I truly appreciate everyone’s participation and I hope you find my feedback helpful and actionable. I wanted to make a quick note of the labeling, as I made a point to be very specific, and there were a large number of submissions which were labeled incorrectly (some more so than others), so I added in a column to note it. This may seem like a small and trivial request, but I assure you that CDs/agents/clients have their reasons for it and it is VERY IMPORTANT to adhere to those directions. Quite simply, it’s the first indication that we have as to what kind of a talent you are and if you are conscientious with attention to detail, so PLEASE make sure you follow that instruction when it’s given!

LISTENING TO YOUR PEERS

You are welcome to listen to your own recording as well as everyone else’s recordings. They are all available to download to members of the VOWW. Hearing your peers do what THEY do is always a great opportunity to learn.

A piece of copy in any genre can be read 1,000’s of ways. In the real world you are auditioning against 100’s of other actors never knowing really what you are up against. The VOWW is an incredible behind the scenes look into what other actors are doing with the same piece of copy. How other home studio’s sound compared to yours. What feedback would look like depending on how any performance is delivered.  It can be eye opening, well EAR opening in many ways for the participants who take the time to delve into all the reads and feedback and not just their own.
