Kirsty Gillmore – Director & Casting Director
Kirsty Gillmore (she/her) is a Voice & Performance Director, Casting Director and Dialogue Producer who has directed and cast over 60 game titles as well as animation and audio drama projects, working with studios and actors all over the world. Recent game credits include The First Descendant, Valorant, Baldur’s Gate 3, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and animation includes Shasha & Milo and the upcoming Netflix series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Kirsty has directed and taught at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, BIMM University and Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has been a speaker and panellist for GDC, GameSoundCon, One Voice Conference and BAFTA. Kirsty is also a sound designer with over 20 years experience for live and audio projects. She has been a juror for multiple years for the BAFTA Games Awards, BAFTA Film Awards, One Voice Awards and Audio Production Awards. In 2021 she was selected for the prestigious BAFTA Breakthrough programme as a Voice Director for Games.

General Note For Everyone:
One of the aspects that I always consider when reviewing auditions is whether an actor might be able to perform the character in any given situation. Your audition should show me this as much as possible – how well you capture the character as described (at least for your first take) and how much variety you can showcase within the character constraints. If performance directions aren’t given, make choices for each line based on what you know i.e. your analysis of the casting brief and text. Give me your full version of the character, as much as you can – not just an appropriate tone, accent and voice quality throught all lines. Include emotes as well as adlibs, switch up your pace, rhythm, volume, intention, emotion. I need to not only believe you as the character, but believe you can do all of the character. Second takes should always show something signficantly different in terms of accent, vocal quality, intention, energy or emotion.
LISTENING TO YOUR PEERS
You are welcome to listen to your own recording as well as everyone else’s recordings. They are all available to download to members of the VOWW. Hearing your peers do what THEY do is always a great opportunity to learn.
A piece of copy in any genre can be read 1,000’s of ways. In the real world you are auditioning against 100’s of other actors never knowing really what you are up against. The VOWW is an incredible behind the scenes look into what other actors are doing with the same piece of copy. How other home studio’s sound compared to yours. What feedback would look like depending on how any performance is delivered. It can be eye opening, well EAR opening in many ways for the participants who take the time to delve into all the reads and feedback and not just their own.
